Meet Alison
       My Background in:
Alison Vaughn
On the Issues
 Jobs
As an entrepreneur, I understand the ups & downs of owning a business. Therefore, I will vote for legislation that increases research and grants for entrepreneurs of tomorrow and I will propose new tax incentives for small businesses so they can make capital investments and purchase health care for their employees

Providing Quality Affordable Health Care
Access to healthcare is determined by many factors-insurance status, living in undeserved communities, being underrepresented in the health care professions, being uninformed about healthcare services and needs, and feeling insecure about our healthcare system. In Michigan, More than 46 million Americans in 2005 were without health care coverage for the past two years; and more than 8 million of those Americans without health care coverage were children.

I will be committed to seeing that health care is accessible and affordable in Michigan.

Quality Education for All Our Children
As a former substitute teacher, I believe education is very important. Every child has a right to quality education. I will fight to invest more resources in schools, including more resources to meet the needs of special students. I believe that the quality of education children receive is directly related to the quality of support for teachers and schools. My goal is to see more resources in the school system.

Criminal Justice System
I want to ensure adequate reentry and ex-offenders programs for adults and youth. Youth of all races sell and use drugs at similar rates, but African American youth represent 60-75 percent of drug arrest today.

I want to increase and encourage the use of substance abuse treatments rather than incarceration.  If government dollars were invested in drug rehabilitation, not only would incarceration rates decrease but ex-offenders would also become productive members of our families and our communities.

Building Strong Communities
Affordable housing is an essential ingredient for healthy families. But it is also a key component of safe neighborhoods and prosperous cities.

Predatory lenders target elderly, poor, and uneducated borrowers to strip the equity from their homes.  I will monitor and prevent Predatory Lending.

It’s a well known fact that Detroit
and the 3rd District don’t get their
fair share of state resources.
It’s also a well-known fact that the
squeaky wheel gets the grease.
it’s time someone made some noise
on behalf of the people who need the help. The distribution of state services
must correlate to the needs that exist
in the state.”

We have so many problems that can be
solved with Creative thinking and hard work.
The People of the 3rd District pay their
taxes like everyone else. They deserve the
representation that they pay for. No one is
going to help Detroit, if we are not willing to
help ourselves, and you can’t help Detroit in
Lansing unless you show up prepared to
work for the people every day.”
